The Best Art App for artists: Procreate OR Adobe Fresco

Updated: Jan 13

Hello, Creative Minds!

Any artist will tell you that having a great art app is essential to their workflow. It can be the difference between a beautiful masterpiece and a half-finished sketch. With so many options on the market, it can be hard to decide which one is right for you. In this article, we’ll compare two of the most popular art apps: Procreate and Adobe Fresco.

Both Procreate and Fresco have a wide range of features and are user-friendly, but they differ in price and compatibility. Procreate is only available on iOS, while Fresco is available on both iOS and Android. Procreate is also a one-time purchase of $9.99, while Fresco is a subscription-based service

What is Procreate?

#Procreate is a powerful art app that has been designed specifically for artists. It has a wide range of features that make it perfect for creating detailed sketches, paintings, and illustrations. It also has a simple interface that makes it easy to use.

What is Adobe Fresco?

#AdobeFresco is a newer art app that was released in 2019. It was created with the intention of being a more user-friendly alternative to Photoshop. Fresco has a similar range of features to Procreate, but it also includes some unique tools that make it ideal for digital painting and illustration.

Which App is Better for Artists?

This is a difficult question to answer, as both Procreate and Adobe Fresco have their own strengths and weaknesses. Ultimately, the best art app for you will depend on your own personal preferences and needs.

Some of the key features of Procreate include:

- A wide range of brushes: Procreate comes with over 130 different types of brushes, all of which can be customized to suit your needs.

- A layer system: This allows you to create complex illustrations by adding and reordering layers.

- Time-lapse recording: Procreate automatically records your drawings as you create them, so you can later share them as a time-lapse video.

- Drawing guides: Procreate includes various types of drawing guides that can help you with perspective, proportions, and more.

- An intuitive interface: The app is designed to be easy to use, even for beginners.

Some of the key features of Adobe Fresco include:

- Live brushes: These are digital brushes that respond to pressure, tilt, and rotation, just like traditional brushes. They’re perfect for creating realistic brush strokes.

- Vector drawing: This allows you to create clean lines and shapes that can be scaled up or down without losing quality.

- Perspective grids: These allow you to draw objects in the correct perspective, making it easy to create 3D illusions.

- Freeform gradients: With this tool, you can create smooth color transitions with the swipe of a finger.

- An industry-standard color picker: Fresco includes an upgraded color picker that provides more control over colors than other art apps.

Price & compatibility

Both Procreate and Fresco have a wide range of features and are user-friendly, but they differ in price and compatibility. Procreate is available on iOS & it is a one-time purchase of $9.99, Fresco is available on both iOS and Android & has a subscription-based service

Which App Should You Use?

As we mentioned before, the best art app for you will depend on your own personal preferences and needs. If you’re looking for an app with a wide range of features, Procreate is a great choice. However, if you’re looking for an app that’s specifically designed for digital painting and illustration, Adobe Fresco may be a better option. I like the ease in Procreate but Watercolor & Oil brushes in Fresco have blown up my mind!!
